Fenway Series
Encaustic photo collage is an endlessly fascinating platform and the ideal medium for me to de-construct, transfer and alter photographic images. This series of work features photos I have taken at Fenway Park over many years. Some images capture compelling moments, others highlight the intriguing industrial geometry, and some simply reveal close-up looks at “unseen” spaces in the historic park. The encaustic medium dramatically transforms a photograph, and the paper it’s printed on. An image is printed on non-glossy paper, then brushed with, or dipped in a pool of melted encaustic medium. Next, a variety of mixed media is collaged and layered over the photo. My favorite media includes encaustic pigments, oil paint & sticks, pastels, grease pencils, India ink and layered translucent papers combined and resulting in a luminous “painterly” surface.
